Sweet potato is one of my favourite ingredients to use for baby led weaning. Versatile, filling and packed full of healthy nutrients – sweet potatoes are a fantastic alternative to starchy potatoes and can be used in a huge range of recipes.

From pancakes, to sweet potato fries to healthy veggie burgers, we try to incorporate sweet potato into baby’s diet at least once a week.

How do you serve these sweet potato tots to your baby

For my toddler I simply pop a few on his plate and let him dig in with his fork. For younger babies, you can cut them into smaller bite size pieces so they can be easily held by little fingers practising their pincer grip or served as is on their tray from them to munch.

Always ensure that the tots are sufficiently cooled before giving them to your baby or toddler.

These sweet potato tots are perfect for baby led weaning and can be adapted depending on what ingredients you have in your cupboard.

  • Switch the sharp cheddar for a dairy free alternative to create gooey fritters that are to die for.
  • Switch up the herbs and spices to create lots of different flavours.
  • Add other grated veggies such as carrot, courgette, squash or normal potato.
  • Make these fritters egg free by replacing the egg with a flax egg (1tbsp flaxmeal + 2.5 tbsp water)
