Considering how many pancake recipes there are on this blog, have you guessed that pancakes are one of my favourite baby led weaning foods?! We started Dexter with banana pancakes many years ago and Felix is just a big a fan of this simple breakfast food. Of course, I love to mix it up a little, so using my basic baby led weaning spinach pancake recipe, I created these banana and spinach pancakes which are perfect for babies.
Baby led weaning banana and spinach pancakes
Why do I love offering pancakes so much? Well, they only use very few ingredients, all of which I always have in my store cupboard and they’re hugely versatile too – you can throw in pretty much anything you have lying around in the fridge or cupboard to create savoury or sweet versions.

I always have a big bag of spinach in my fridge because of how good it is for you – full of iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin K – and I throw it in curries, omelettes, pancakes, fritters, burgers – pretty much anything I am making.

Why use bananas in baby led weaning?
Bananas are also very nutrient rich containing potassium, Vitamin B-6, magnesium and Vitamin C and are a great addition to your pancake mix. You can of course make pancakes using only bananas and eggs (omitting the flour) such as in this 3 ingredient spinach and banana pancake recipe, but I find the flour gives you denser pancakes, leaving you feeling more full.

What milk can you use for these banana and spinach pancakes?
One question I commonly asked is if the milk HAS to be whole cows milk. No it does not. If you prefer to use breastmilk/formula or if your child is dairy free then use whatever alternative milk has been recommended to you.

Hi.
May I know if this is freezer/chiller friendly? Can I keep for 3-4days in the chiller, and reheat before serving?
I would keep it only for a day or two in the chiller.
Is this recipe ok for a 9 month old with no teeth so excited to try this with maybe a omelette with it or just on its own
This recipe didn’t work for us at all – it made about 20 pancakes that I would consider “baby sized” so I don’t understand where 4 has come from! It was also far too liquidy with those exact measurements. They were a very weird consistency and not pancake like at all.
Sorry you were disappointed! I will revisit the measurements this weekend to see if they can be improved. Thanks for your comment.
Can you warm these from frozen in the toaster?
Hi Stella, I have done this before 🙂
Absolute family fave! We love them at ours. My
Son is currently unwell and has requested them now. Great recipe! If I wanted to make double the batch do I just double the ingredients? Thanks!
Can you use almond flour instead?
@Renee Dorigiola, wow good idea..👍👍i’ll try that..
How long can they go in freezer
Tried this today after I ordered a pancake pan with the moulds as I can’t freehand pancakes too clumsy… Anyways batter was perfect my 8 month old took to the pancake like it was the best thing ever. I got about 8 out of the mix. Love your page👌
My nearly 8 month old and I really enjoyed these this morning! Easy to make, nice consistency and flavour – I’ll definitely be making them again.
BEST pancake recipe I have found and believe me I’ve been on this for almost 3 months.
The consistency was PERFECT ! Yay
