Easy and quick dinner idea for toddlers

I am always trying to think of easy and quick dinner ideas for my toddler. After a long day at work, I am often so tired that I find it so easy to prepare something quick like beans on toast or pasta pesto.

I know he gets a decent lunch and snack at nursery, but it’s so important to me to make sure the food we have at home is healthy too. That’s why I love creating toddler recipes just like this one!

This recipe contains four different veggies, making it full of vitamins and minerals – vital for your toddler’s development.

It also takes only a few minutes to prep and less than 10 minutes to cook – winner!

What veggies did I use to make this chicken noodle recipe for toddlers?

All of these veggies are packed with vitamin C, iron, potassium, magnesium all of which are vital for your toddler’s healthy development and will boost their immune system.

Making chicken noodles for toddlers

To make this recipe super quick, I use cooked chicken, but of course if you don’t have any to hand, you can cook some chicken first.

I find strips and shredded chicken work best for toddlers so I either slice it up with some scissors or pull it apart with two forks.

Preparing the veggies

I dice the pepper and mushroom so there are no large chunks, but you may find that if your little one is on the younger side of the toddler scale, that finger sized strips of pepper may work better, especially if they’re not yet using cutlery.

For the broccoli, I pull each floret off the stalk and then pull the heads off so there’s lots of small pieces, discarding the stalks. You can also grate the broccoli if your toddler is fussy to hide it within the stir fry.

I trim the green beans, then either chop them in half or into thirds depending on how long they are.

What cutlery do we use?

We have a huge stash of cutlery. In the photo below, Felix is using a set of Munchkin cutlery but we also use Doddl and cheap sets we’ve picked up at B&M

Is this recipe suitable for babies?

This recipe contains honey which shouldn’t be offered to babies who are not yet one. To be on the safe side, eliminate the honey from this recipe if offering to babies under the age of one.

What do you do with the leftovers?

You’ll probably find that this recipe will create enough for two bowls of chicken noodles, plus leave some as leftovers. We simply leave it to cool, pop it in a bowl and keep it in the fridge overnight, covered in clingfilm.

We don’t recommend keeping it in the fridge for more than a couple of days. We usually serve it as an even quicker lunch the following day!

How do you serve these chicken noodles to your toddler?

I popped these chicken noodles for toddler in IKEA bowls alongside a fork and let my toddler go to town! Younger toddlers may prefer to use a suction plate such as the Bamboo Bamboo baby led weaning plate or have it placed directly on their highchair tray.
