Pumpkin is one of my favourite ingredients to cook with as it’s so versatile. As soon as September hits, I am out at the local farm shops to get my hands on this delicious and nutritious fruit which can make so many delicious recipes for babies and kids. This pumpkin soup for babies is perfect for the whole family. No salt, nutritious pumpkin and easily adapted so Mum can enjoy alongside baby too!
This pumpkin soup recipe will become a firm favourite with your family for years to come!

Why offer pumpkin to your baby?
Pumpkin is one of my favourite ingredients to use for baby led weaning. Similar to sweet potato, it is versatile and packed full of healthy nutrients.
From pumpkin pancakes, to pumpkin waffles to healthy pumpkin muffins, we try to incorporate pumpkin into baby’s diet at least once a week once we reach autumn.

Pumpkin can be easily pureed and added to a huge range of dishes!
Why choose pumpkin for baby led weaning?
- Rich in antioxidants which enhances the immune system – very much needed during the cold autumn and winter months!
- Contains calcium and magnesium which help build strong teeth and bones
- Rich in phosphorus which is great for digestion and brain health
- Pumpkins contain tryptophan that helps the body produce serotonin. This amino acid helps induce calmness and drowsiness which could help your baby sleep better! (A huge reason to feed pumpkin errrryday!)
How do you serve this pumpkin soup for babies?
Make sure this pumpkin soup for babies is fully cooled before serving to your baby. If you are following the traditional weaning path you can spoon feed this soup to your baby. If you are doing baby led weaning, you can offer pre-loaded spoons.
If your baby is a little older, try them with their own cutlery and see how they get on – soup is always a messy business though – be warned!
We also love serving soup with toasted bread for baby to dunk. Just look at Felix demolishing a huge hunk of bread here!

What cutlery does Felix use to eat this soup?
We have used a huge range of baby led weaning spoons over the years, but only a few have stood the test of time.
We were sent some Doddl cutlery to review back when Dexter was a tiny baby and we still use this cutlery to this day with Felix.
The cutlery has an ergonomic design making it easy for your baby to use. Buy your own Doddl cutlery here*
In these images, Felix is using a Bamboo Bamboo spoon*. This spoon came with a Bamboo Bamboo bowl we purchased at the start of Felix’s baby led weaning journey (vital for those Insta shots right?!) The silicone tip is perfect for little mouths and this spoon has been with us now for nearly two years.

What blender do you use to make your soups?
I use a hand held blender to make all my soups and love this one from Russell Hobbs*
It costs less than £12 and we’ve had it for a number of years now. It’s seen us make a ton of soup over its lifetime!
Can adults enjoy this pumpkin soup recipe too?
Absolutely! I ate a bowl of this soup whilst Felix was eating his, only for my bowl I added a tiny pinch of salt and some chilli flakes to add a little flavour.
The most important part of baby led weaning is sitting and eating with your little one so that they can see how exactly eating a meal works. That’s why i like to create recipes that’ll not just feed your baby – but feed you too!
